Off I Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder

Posted May 27, 2008 2:56 PM by M&M_aero

When we are young, we dream about growing up. We talk about what we're going to be, and may even dress up as nurses or fire fighters,. But we never really imagine that The Day is coming. It never seems quite real.

But it does become real! On Saturday, May 17, 2008, I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering. Now, I am entering the "real" world. The Day has come.

I'll be away from CR4 for several weeks while I move to another state and settle into my new job. I'll be back in a matter of weeks, however, and will continue to provide you with aerospace news.

Thank you in advance for your patience while I enter this next phase of life!

"to the tables down at Morry's"

"to the place where Louie dwells"

"to the dear old temple bar we love so well"

"see the whiffenpoofs assembled"

"with their glasses raised on high"

"and the magic of their singing cast it spell"

I have never thought for one minute that I had grown up because of a certain event in my life...

At 56 I'm still growing up in terms of learning about my surroundings and people around me... Let alone the enormous amount of information that I have only just scratched the surface of getting to know.

Still you have my best wishes in your new job - look forward to the challenges and don't dwell on the past failures.

John.

Grow Up??!!
What an awful thought...I remember the 'admonishment' of being 'childish' has always struck me as a compliment.

What could be better for an engineer than to retain childhood's curiosity, excitement, sense of wonder, energy, enthusiasm and humour?

We doubtless all have our responibilities and troubles to bear... but if your inner child can remain alive then the world is a nicer place.

Del

Here i sit at almost 50 years old, and my doctor tells me I have the heart of a teenager, the inner child has dominated my life so far, and my health shows it.

Don't dwell on the failures, rather learn from them, when something go off in the wrong direction, dig into it to learn why.

Always, always ask WHY!!! Question everything, learning is so much fun, and never be afraid to offer off the wall solutions. Long live your rebel soul.
