The city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has grown up around a quartzite quarry and concrete plant originally founded in the 1900s. They put into place a set of practices to minimize their impact on the surrounding community, including enclosing their screening towers to control dust and digging a tunnel to shorten the distance required to haul their product.
