Dark Energy Signs Seen in Giant Clusters and Voids

Posted August 04, 2008 9:29 AM

From SPACE.com:

Scientists have found more intriguing evidence for dark energy — one of nature's most befuddling phenomena. Dark energy is thought to make up about 74 percent of the universe, while dark matter — a mysterious form of matter that scientists can only detect by noting its gravitational pull on things — makes up about 22 percent. That leaves only 4 percent of the universe composed of things we can see and touch: the normal protons, electrons and neutrons called baryonic matter. Scientists don't know what dark energy is, but they observe its tugging effect, which causes the expansion of the universe to accelerate. Now they have seen this mysterious force in some of the largest known features of the cosmos, called superclusters and supervoids.

I just can't incorporate dark energy into my understanding of the cosmos. It's a piece that simply won't fit into the jigsaw puzzle, no matter how hard I bang on it with my giant hammer of reason. Anybody else?

I feel similarly about about dark matter too, although at least with it there are a few possible explanations that may work.

And on a related note, I want to go on record as utterly rejecting the concept of vegetarian "hot dogs" made from tofu. But that's for another discussion.

All that Dark Energy is the energy which runs the Stargate System, of course.

And you thought it ran on steam power.

Kind Regards....

Don't be ridiculous! The ancient Egyptians ran the Stargate on static electricity! (Why do you think they had s many cats?)

This is great, the science of guessing.

All of these percentages, that are still only a guess.

All of the numbers are based on known space.

The numbers will Chang dramatically as we get closer to the edge.

And what makes them think that there is dark energy.

What makes them think its energy at all.

It doesn't have to be energy to effect gravity.

I think it's the opposite of gravity.

Revise gravity!

Like the polarity of magnets pushing and pulling on each other.

Hey as long as were all guessing.
