Hackers Infiltrate Large Hadron Collider

Posted September 15, 2008 8:54 AM

From Wired: Top Stories:

Though the Large Hadron Collider's infiltration by hackers did not disrupt the historic project, experts warn that its computer systems are vulnerable -- though at least their exploitation won't destroy Earth. Shortly after physicists activated the Collider on Wednesday, hackers identifying themselves as Group 2600 of the Greek Security Team accessed computers connected to the Compact Muon Solenoid detector, one of four key subsystems responsible for monitoring the collisions of protons speeding around the 18-mile track near Geneva, Switzerland.

Because the Phd's running this juvenile experiment have NO COMMON SENSE.

Why not invite the hackers over for some tea and crumpets while you're at it.

Everyone is worried about this thing destroying the world, I'll be surprised if this

POS powers up to full power.

And who in their right mind would hack into a system that (yeah, as IF!) might unleash a mini black hole on themselves?

Seriously, I expect the connection was made so scientists could communicate findings globally, but why the connection would include operating systems is beyond my ken. How about it, Ken? Any thoughts?

I thought it was "The Geek Security Team" which did the hacking into that US$6 billion money pit, which actually is near enough to a "Black Hole" we are likely to see.

Kind Regards....
