Convert Your Car to a Plug-in Hybrid

Posted October 06, 2008 9:09 AM

From Wired: Top Stories:

If you really wanted to go green with your hybrid, you'd be plugging into the power grid. Furthering your fossil fuel independence is possible by converting your Prius to a plug-in. Plugging in to the power grid furthers your fossil fuel independence. I think not Skippy! What do you think powers the grid? Why it's FOSSIL FUEL Unless you live in sin city which is powered by Hydro. Plus what about the enormous environmental impact of manufacturing and disposing of battery systems.

Yup. In the U.S., coal provides 49% of the nation's electrical power.

The theory is good.

But all the various losses during energy transmission seem to have been forgotten.

Not really eco-friendly, when the manufacture of those batteries and equipment is taken into account.

Replacement batteries will be very expensive, difficult for disposal, and the car has quite a limited range.

I will not mention the coal, because as the earlier Members say, coal powers more electrical grids than any other single source.

Kind Regards....
