Alternatives to Daylight Saving Time?

Posted October 24, 2008 9:23 AM

From Slashdot:

Daylight saving time almost upon us. The arguments about its possible benefits and drawbacks come up twice every year. Does it save energy or lives? Possibly, but it does definitely cause a great deal of inconvenience. My question is this: what do you think would be the best possible system to replace DST with? What is the best way for humans to deal with the inconsistent amount of light over the year and still foster coordination over disparate time zones?

Simple. Wait for next spring and set the clocks ahead 1/2 hour.

IMHO, it WAS usefull in time everybody worked from 6 in the morning to 2 in afternoon and from 2 afternoon to 10 in the evening, while today most work from 9 inthe morning to five in the afternoon........

Therefore it is not usefull any more and should be discontinued.

Not only this, it actually dont save anything, nor it was saving anything but perhaps electricity used for lightening :-((

In addition to this, it is helthier for body to have same rithm of waking up, feeding, working, feeding, entertaining sleeping..........

Time change introduce unnecesary stress........

Some western provinces in Canada got rid of it a long time ago.

The best system is SWATCH/INTERNET time, which is constant no matter where you are in the world.

Schedule a meeting at a particular SWATCH/Internet time and everyone's clocks and watches are showing the same time = no bother about Time Zones, daylight Saving, Summer Time, Winter time etc.

Read further here: http://www.timeanddate.com/time/internettime.html

Also here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatch_Internet_Time

Whether this will ever be used fully is still to be known, but the idea and principle behind that idea appears to be a good one.

Kind Regards....
