Scientists Identify Two Routes to Nerve Cell Regeneration

Posted November 10, 2008 9:05 AM

From Discover Magazine | RSS:

Injury to nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, once considered permanent, may be reversible after all. A pair of new studies demonstrate how to override two biological mechanisms that prevent damaged cells of the central nervous system from regrowing. The first obstacle are genes that prevent nerve growth and the second are chemical signals that repress nerve growth.

Looking forward to further developments, although it's hard on the mice.

Kind Regards....

Kind of reminds me of the pig bladder pixie dust

My best friend growing up was an amputee (leg, below the knee) and probably gets credit for me going into mechanical engineering...I wonder how much pixie dust it would take to make a whole adult leg?

Another "miracle" of modern medicine. Advances like this that improve the quality of life give one hope for us yet.
