The Future of Wireless

Posted November 26, 2008 8:16 AM

While Americans chose their next president, the FCC elected to allow the use of white space, opening up spare frequencies to third-party mobile data services. Add to this the recent telecom mergers, rhetoric about net neutrality, and access to greater broadband, the industry is no doubt in flux. How will all of this impact the wireless industry?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Wireless Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Wireless Technology today.

Why must I feel I have to post anonymously ?

In new york, I have been installing wireless networks in buildings and public parks for almost a year now. There are references to opening up more and more bandwidth but it seems like much of this will be allocated to certain parties, et. al. government, state, local and federal.

With the huge telecom mergers as of late, (and more to come) I can only assume that much of the "openings" will be controlled by very few (if not ONE), and allocated for one eventual reason. Not necessarily for public usage for web surfing, but for the ever increasing amount of IP camera civilian surveillance. The path of our future seems to go through England.
