Ozone Hole Weakens Oceanic Carbon Sink

Posted December 10, 2008 9:16 AM

From News at Nature - Most Recent:

The hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica may be impairing the Southern Ocean's ability to mop up carbon dioxide from Earth's atmosphere, according to work presented at a meeting in France today. Earth's oceans are the largest sink of carbon dioxide, with the Southern Ocean accounting for more than 40% of the annual oceanic uptake of the greenhouse gas, says Andrew Lenton, a marine biochemist at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris

Very tenuous link. Read the whole article to get the extent of how little they really know. But it makes a great headline.

Considering sunlight creates ozone and Antarctica is dark at least four months out of the year. This "hole" has been there since Antarctica has been at the South Pole.

As usual, science takes a back seat to sensationalism.

Yes reality rarely makes a good sensational reason to get emotional about.

If the CO2 is causing ocean acidification then that might be an issue, but more likely it is acidic run off from humans (us) and our industry plus the Earths normal inputs.

To bad the news has become as reliable as well I'm not sure of anything that is that unreliable.

I like your tag line. One of my favorite quotes from Jefferson.
