Climate Change Not Imminent Danger, UN Panel Chief Says

Posted December 10, 2008 9:13 AM

From CBC | Technology & Science News:

There is no clear evidence that global warming is an imminent danger to the world, says Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Even so, it would be good for governments to go further with proposed cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions to deal with dire predictions made in a 2007 panel report, he told the Associated Press in an interview on Tuesday.

What is this? A crack in the mantle of irrationality?

Perhaps not. Let's first see what happens to Rajendra Pachauri, the UN's chairman for climate change. Wouldn't it be ironic if Mr. Pachauri is quietly "retired" from his post while no one envolved with the oil-for-food scandle has yet been tossed to the sharks.

I bet the UN has a lot of scientific background for what they say and we should listen to all that they say. I'm not on the "climate change" bandwagon by any means but come on, wake up, the UN is nothing but a farce, and has been for a long time. Anyone and any country that really listens to the UN is just stupid. It's yet another huge waste of money around the world. IMHO

The UN has a clear purpose and that is to extort as much cash from the US as possible and also lay the blame for as many of the ills of the world at the feet of the US.

The US doles out more money to the UN and around the world than the rest combined. Any time there is a desaster anywhere in the world who is the first to arrive to help and who sends the most money time after time?

When there is a desaster in the US we are on our own.

And the UN report - seems to cover both sides of the argument..... climate change not a threat, but continue with all of the programs to lower greenhouse gasses... Seems to me this is having ones cake and having it too.

The whole global warming, climate change hystaria is little more than a vehicle to derail (US) capitalism and strike a blow at the US economy and way of life. Why else would countries like China, India and some European countries be exempt from cleaning up emissions when they are some of the worst offenders? Rather than raising everyones standard of living up it seems clear the policy is to drag the US down - that way we can all be equal.

I have read a Canadian reporter that stated,

when disaster hits, who's there. The U.S., even when we don't side with the government.

When an earth quake hit California, who was there to assists the U.S.........no one

How takes the risks to build airplanes, private US companies such as Boeing.

Europe, it has to be subsidized.

And it went on like that, and in the end

he stated that the U.S. would always help, but when the U.S. is in trouble it stands alone.

He went on to say he takes his hat off to the U.S. with thanks and wishes the rest of the world would stop bashing it.

This isn't word for word, but I wish I could find that article.

I also read that article but have misplaced it.

Truely, the US has been there to help in virtually all disasters and many times it does stand alone (if it has to). I find it interesting that directly after 9-11, the world was so sad to see that the US was attacked by the Muslim extremists and had a great outpouring of sentiment. But now sentiment has faded. How fickle the world is ! Or is it because we are all of us now are in the same pickle and the US isn't there to bail us out?

The Americans. Gordon Sinclair did it first in the early 70s. Bryon McGregor covered it and got in the top 10.

Actually we provide 22% of the UN general budget, slightly ahead of Japan at about 20%. Assessments on a $/GDP work out about evenly for the industrialized world.

Mein Gott! Doesn't anybody ever check facts? What he said was "...no conclusive evidence the world is in imminent danger." That's a world of difference from "...no clear..."

No matter your position on this issue, at least read the story. Pachauri was arguing that the world should take a cautious approach toward radical solutions, using essentially a five-year plan rather than just react willy-nilly to every latest hysteria.

FACTS,

heck, there were so many facts thrown at both sides, that they carry very little meaning any more, to a point of being unrecognizable.

Other than the report. What kind of facts do you want, for/against.

I'm still not very certain. I am fairly certain we're seeing climate change. I'm not convinced that it's global warming (other than a "normal" cycle). I'm a little uneasy about Mann's data, but I'm aghast at the distortions from many of his detractors.

But, I want there to be a legitimate scientific debate, with hard data presented, tested, and verified or refuted. I don't care for the "Santa Claus will save us" approach by the far left and I don't care for the "Treehuggers are commies" approach by the far right. Truth is too valuable to have it hijacked by a bunch of political &88#@*!

I think were grouped together on that.

But, I want there to be a legitimate scientific debate, with hard data presented, tested, and verified or refuted.

I tried that, I got in over my head, that if I did not so definte Yes or No, I was nothing but a worm.

Unfortunately, the hardliners tactics backfired and drove me to take it as a joke. Which is unfortunate.

Is it getting warmer yes, but than I also mention maybe the human race isn't in the forture of earth. And to stop tring to change the natural order of things. That quite them down........except calling me a worm.
