Fresh Warning on China Bird Flu

A Chinese health expert has said that the country is likely to experience an upsurge in the number of human bird flu cases in the next month or two. Shu Yuelong, from the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, said China needed to work harder at preventing bird flu outbreaks.

Sure, and it'll be a galloping epizoötic before we know it! Personally I shall refrain from handling any birds, or anyone who has done so.

PBS had a microbiologist on a few years back who claimed that the chance of this thing mutating into a major human problem was in the gazillions to one.

One gets cynical hearing of every "sky is falling" calamity that will befall mankind if we don't spend research funds on this pending disaster or that.

It makes me appreciate the old wisdom imparted in such fairy tales such as "Chicken Little", "The Emperor's New Clothes", etc.
