iriver's SPINN hits 2.0, Throws Download Party

Posted January 21, 2009 8:54 AM

From Engadget:

The SPINN is easily the sexiest device on iriver's tawdry pallet of gadget-lust. Unfortunately, we found the user experience to be a bit lacking at launch. While the feature list is long and impressive, the UI just couldn't pull it all together. Now SPINN's gone 2.0 and with it hope for the device to live up to our giddy first impressions. New to this firmware update is a memo taking feature, big glorious album art, auto rotating pictures, auto-recording of DMB television, and DAB or FM radio (where supported), increased control over video playback, and game downloads for those of you in Korea.

Possibly I'm an old timer, but I have never understood the concept of the large MP3 / video player.

Yes, it might be nice to watch a movie on occasions where I am stuck somewhere devoid of all other entertainment for a prolonged period. Such as in an airplane on a very long trip. But such occasions are fairly rare for me. Are they so very common for most other people?

And web browsing on such little devices only makes for headaches and annoyance.

I much prefer a very small, durable, inexpensive MP3 player with an excellent battery life. I can listen to music and podcasts and use my eyes to peek shamelessly at all the lovely young things that cross my path. Such delights are not to be lost because of some dull movie!

If I must have such a device as this one, it might as well be a smart phone.
