Mitigate Heart-Disease Risk by Exercising For Seven Minutes a Week

Last week's edition of Quirks and Quarks (the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's national science show) had a fascinating piece on some new research on very high-intensity, very short-duration exercise regimes. The research, conducted by Dr. Jamie Timmons, an exercise biologist at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, investigated the immediate and short-term benefits of a six-minute-per-week exercise regime consisting of multiple regular sets of hard sprinting on an exercise bicycle.

I'm always looking to kill the 30 minute wait for the pizza delivery guy bringing the double-double mega-meat cheese-stuffed deep-dish El Supremeo. And side salad.

So I could in theory do a month's worth of exercising in that time! Sweet.

My physician is on my case about losing weight. I explained that I exercise strenuously 3-4 times per week for 1 hour each session. He brought it back to basics when he pointed out how much exercise is necessary to counter even a simple meals energy input. BTW, the calories under consideration are Calories (not calories)-note the big C.
