I wonder what would happen if one was to toss a hand full of bearings into a room with someone in this invention? Better yet two hand fulls on different initial trajectories?

IBM has filed a patent for bionic body armor that would force you (yes, even sedentary, non-athletic you) to dodge bullets.

Why would I want an invention that forces me to dodge bullets? I don't want bullets shot at me! Does it also somehow force other people to shoot the bullets?

Neat, but what happens to your limbs when they, say accelerate out of the way of the parth of a bullet at 200G's.

I have a low tech solution against this armor, it is called napalm over 500meter square try to evade that!

Napalm is good but a Light Arc strike is a great alternative!

I believe this can work only when the shooter is at a distance that will enable the computer to detect, calculate and activate the armor. At shorter distances, this is useless.

The total weight of the equipment should not be heavier than kevlar, or a total armor like what Iron Man wears might as well be the solution.

Don't worry about sudden involuntary movements forced by the equipment. All movements will be in the direction of your natural joints. The effect will be like a strong shove, but it'll be better than a bleeding hole, definitely.

I don't think the inventor has done his arithmetic.
I'd guess most lethal shots are from less than 10metres.
I don't think there is time to shift a body far enough to avoid a chest shot in that time.

I've heard that rattlesnakes are fast enough to catch a bullet. So just wear a bunch of them and all you suffer from is snake residue.

If this "system" is capable of calculating a likely hit within
such a short time span, and, also moving the body mass;
I would suggest moving a small "shield" could be a far more
practical idea? i.e. a small metal area interceding the hit.

It could be e.g. a vertical strip of plastic or metal, perhaps
suspended from a helmet such that it would revolve around
the body. This would not restrict the normal actions and fire
power of the wearer, but it could instantly (one assumes)
place itself in the path of any and all incoming projectiles.
(just don't offer to shake hands with these people!)

that wouldn't work. If the device was attached toa helmet the reaction force would be on the neck. You may not have a bullet hole but you would be looking at your own backside!

The helmet doesn't move! Only the blade.(shield)
e.g. Spins like a helicopter blade only vertically.

Normally positioned to one side, the blade would spin
to intercept an incoming missile; only moving a short
distance (by rotation) without screwing the head!

A real hi-tech modern shield.

OK ,good point, but hum, let me see......Ok, I can still find a way to shoot it down, here goes. The rapid spinning of this blade will cause a large P-factor, throwing your back into painful spasm. How's that?

Bionic armor to make one dodge bullets? I don't need no armor to dodge bullets. I dodge 'em anyway and I even wear a vest sometimes.

What happens if you wrap your car in this stuff? Does it prevent accidents? Of course, all those gees would kill everybody inside.
