Scientists Create Pills to Erase Bad Memories

Posted February 19, 2009 10:19 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

Did you ever wish if there was any way to get rid of all those bad memories you had when you were a child or even now. Well in the near future you could possibly do that by just taking a pill. Tests conducted by Dutch researchers showed volunteers who had been given pills had a much lower response for a bad encounter with spiders, as compared to those who did not have the pill. These pills are based on beta-blocker drugs that erase the bad memory and interfere with the brain's re-creation of stressful events. So there is no chance of a re-lapse and the stressful events can successfully be thrown away. The result is happier people with less stress. But the ethics for such as told by some critics is that it messes up with the whole idea of being a human being. But will the pills be effective on something that is more emotional than spider photos? That is a question that has to be answered because there are some events that are more horrific and stressful.

How about a pill to give to my estranged wife, that would make her go away?

Hmmmmmmm, maybe you need to take the pill to forget that you were on this thread and reading about this topic, so that way you will forget that Ferris ever replied to the comment that you never posted to Kris and the other guy. That is Kris and the other guy did post a reply to this thread I seem to have forgotten about, right? Or did I imagine it?!?

All kinds of Big Brother crap could be implicated with this drug... Hell, if it would get me next to Kate Winslet, inset picture from the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, maybe I would think about it... I've had a thing for her since the TITanic

Cheers

Ferris

p.s. I am back again

They never think about the wonderful applications in the world of crime. Doing something stressful to somebody? Now there's a pill to get rid of the witness.. why bother to wear a mask, they won't even remember your face (well, that's what the guy said when my memory__ blanked out)

Re: Scientists Create Pills to Erase Bad Memories

that's really dumb.

lady takes a pill and forgets she was sexually molested by somebody, and goes right back to his house to get attacked again because molester thinks she's back because she enjoyed it.

should make us more and more suspicious of the drugs being manufactured today. they may make us morons instead of idiots.

that would work. the classic "date rape" drugs are benzodiazepenes. memory no more, big chunks of time convenientlly gone.

the deal with the "propanalol" is that it allows selective memory deletion. what they are working towards is a drug that could wipe a specific memory so cleanly, you'd think you were awake the whole time and you'd swear that the wiped 'incident' never happened...

pity the test subjects.

Unfortunately, the wars are generating a lot of "research subjects" - soldiers with PTSD.

Not to throw sand in the face of a therapy that might work for them. But soldiers have always been vulnerable to being exploited as test subjects. As history shows, the survivors have a hard time getting compensation as well. The ultimate insult, to the brave men who defend our freedoms.

<LOL> 1. you've got an unusual eye, seeing the invisible, or,

2. you're young enough to have missed the heydays of Alfred E. Neuman. well, OK, 'til this day, he's still making fun of almost everybody and everything.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I seem to remember this goes somewhere. I seem to have FORGOTTEN .......................................................... Curious, huh? How is it there in the great state there Chas? I have heard rumblings of the Texas militia getting ready to roll out to help quell the crapola that is going on at the border... What with the vids that I have been seeing with the automatic gun fire going off in the back ground.

Oh, I remember...Ferris wheel, right?

Oh, ok I get it:

Cheers

Ferris

A wheel indeed. It seems we get less of the news here locally than those elsewhere. Damn frustrating. The border is a mess. The wall/fence cameras and all are still going up.
