Agreed. Paddle shifters are to sports cars as is genetalia on 90 year old men. They both work poorly, have little feel and aren't as satisfying as a stick.

Anyway, while I applaud Toyata's effort toward making a Prius sexier, I'd much rather see them making a sexier Prius. Rather than trying to make a sports coupe, that is.

Still, maybe it'll catch on and spur the hybrid market a little.

Lexus makes great cars. I'm sure the paddle shifters work great, but I feel like it might be a different experience with a hybrid car in the 24,000 dollar range.

I agree paddle shifters a very lame, modern cars are so quiet you cant hear the motor sound, how on earth can you shift without hearing the motor? OK so I am old school, but there is no sound quite as pleasing as a well tuned exhaust system.

Toyota hybrid cars do not have "transmissions" only a fixed final reduction drive. What would the paddle shifters shift, the amount of current in the motor-generator? The current 4000 pound Highlander Hybrid all wheel drive has a 0-60 time of 7.1 sec. so you can imagine the performance in the MR2.
