Proposed Bans on BPA Picking Up Steam

At least seven states are considering banning bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical found in baby bottles and other plastic products that U.S. federal regulators have said is safe but has been banned in Canada because of links to health problems including heart disease and diabetes. [More]

Yeah, and I drink out of the garden hose. Oh, the horror of it.

I have mixed feelings about all this. Sometimes, the benefits of certain chemicals and products far outweigh the risks. Unfortunately, I believe that there are people out looking for a problem, not responding to a problem. It has its place, but we should also consider the big picture.

I guess where I get confused is how we are told we are being increasingly poisoned by "all these chemicals" yet we are living longer than ever before. As far as BPA being linked to heart disease and diabetes, how did they separate the effects of BPA from the lousy diets eaten by so many people who aspire to little more than consuming mass quantities of entertainment from Hollywood and the stadiums while filling their faces on the sofa?
