No Boundaries for Big Brother?

Posted May 28, 2009 7:24 AM

In the UK, government offices are asking communications providers to "record all Internet contacts" of their customers — for the good of the country, of course. Where are the boundary lines that define a person's privacy?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Pneumatics, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Pneumatics today.

Unfortunately while working for the Government, every time you log on to an application or internet, LAN, WAN, you get a warning that everything will be monitored and recorded. We are told we do not have any rights since it is a federal trunk line. It asks us if we accept this agreement or not. Click "I do not agree" and it closes. You want the job. you accept what they require.

No different in American business, unmonitored internet access is very rare as the company takes on some of the liability for acts you may perform using their equipment and access.

More in the spirit

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A car linked to a man charged with setting a wildfire that killed five firefighters was spotted near at least 10 other arsons, an official involved in the investigation said Friday.

Cameras secretly placed atop utility poles in remote areas captured details of a car registered to a man who said he had sold it to Raymond Lee Oyler months ago, said the official, who requested anonymity because the case was continuing.

Good they caught an arsonist

But they got a lot of video of me peeing alongside that road, too.
