Get Out the Flyswatter

Posted June 21, 2009 7:18 AM

Unobtrusive; pervasive; lethal. Swarms of bug-like drones will soon infest the war-fighting environment. What are the chances that Multi Air Vehicles, said by the U.S. Air Force to be a "research project," are already running reconnaissance missions — and not necessarily on the battlefield?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Pneumatics, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Pneumatics today.

Are you seeing black helicopters, too?

Maybe these have been around longer than anyone thinks. In fact, I think all bugs are CIA spy devices. Ever notice when you swat one that 20 more come around to see what happened?

hmm. the video sure has that comic book thing about it. The MAV's are so distinctively machines, hardly a hint of camo. They look like military hardware, but..

check out little bots that grow muscles from animal cells:

or june bugs with implanted flight control systems...

you may have something there, hero! Using live bugs for jackets: No need for expensive disguises.

(survival tips... if your bugs aren't fascinated by light bulbs and sugar water, they could be slaves of the evil empire..... all personnel are advised to attend the pre-emptive bug striking reflex training seminar ...)

the military borrows the ideas from sci-fi movies.

these "bugs" were copied from that Keanu Reeves movies (the title escapes me now, where he plays a cop, running a department that could predict crimes before they happen, where the identity of the victim including address could be predicted by 2 people who were tethered to a machine that recorded their 'dreams', took pictures and harvested the data to come up with the prediction).

there is that possibility that these stuff have been around longer than we suppose. perhaps someone somewhere has been viewing most of our private moments, too? call this high-tech voyeurism.

So that is why the urinal flushes more quickly for some guys that outhers. I don't know about you but for me it flushes twice before I am finished and once as I leave. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, please advise...

"Minority Report" a Phillip K. Dick story... he was a real visionary. Blade Runner, and a few others were his too. I think Minority Report had Tom Cruise not Reeves.

Brings the term of "De-bugging the area" a whole new meaning.

Think you mean Micro Air Vehicles (MAV), not Multi Air Vehicles (at least that is the Army acronym).
