Blu Bottle Water Bottle Generates Its Own Water

Posted June 04, 2009 9:48 AM

From OhGizmo!:

I don't know enough about hydrokinetodynamics (or whatever) to be able to hazard a guess about just how conceptual this concept is, but it sure seems like it could be nifty… The Blu Bottle water bottle contains some kind of refrigeration unit that's powered by your kinetic energy. As you move, a pump cools air inside the bottle, creating condensation which collects at the bottom as drinkable water. So, as you walk around, the bottle magically refills itself. Like I said, this seems like one of those concepts that can't possibly work in real life, despite the fact that it has been "intricately researched and designed" by a guy named Yuri Teodorowych. We'll be sure and keep you updated if anything ever comes of this idea.

So what next, a HHO powered car that refuels itself ?!

Aw, c'mon, it's great ! You're stuck in a desert, and simply walking in circles for 200 miles can give you a thimble full of water - it could be a life saver. A gallon of sweat is nothing compared to a nice fresh thimble of water. The idiots waiting in the shade of their stranded vehicles would feel really stupid. It'd be a good idea to wash your socks in the radiator water before setting off, the rescuers wouldn't be impressed by a grubby appearance.

What are the realistic size constraints on a piezoelectric powered refrigerator?

Will the interface be anything like having your entire skin surface plastered with duct tape, for thimble-sized rewards?

Has anyone told the camels about this??

Piezo? Or induction coils?

If you shake one of those battery-less flashlights for a few minutes, you get enough juice to light up an LED weakly for a few minutes. That makes the self-filling water bottle seem unlikely...

Though I guess the amount of energy required depends on the dew point of the locality. It would work much better in cool, wet places. Of course, those places probably have plenty of water available anyway.
