Storm Chasers Captured Footage Inside a Tornado

Posted June 11, 2009 12:16 PM

From Gizmodo:

Storm chasers drive towards tornados, hoping to photograph them from up close and study them as they're happening. But usually they just get close. Not last week, when these storm chasers went inside a twister. This happened last week in Goshen co., Wyoming, the clip taken by the TornadoVideos.net SRV Dominator. The footage is impressive not because of what it does capture (the inside of a tornado) but also because of what it doesn't (girlish screaming and crying). (click read fully story for video)

I dont think they're idiots. They're doing valuable research.

These aren't just some average joe driving down the road and happen to see a twister then decide to see if they can get inside it. That would have been an idiot. These guys are fully equipted to research these things.

Listening to the sound track, They made a consious descision before the tornado even showed up that they wanted to try and get inside a twister. Personally I never want to be in another tornado. But I'm glad there are people doing research on them.

And if you think these guys are idiots. What do you think of the researchers that fly planes into hurricanes?

This sort of activity will continue until someone gets maimed or killed at which point the victims family will bring suit against the Discovery Channel and Henry Waxman will introduce legislation to tax Mother Nature.
