Do You Believe In 'Tooth Worms?' Micro-images Of Strange, Worm-like Structures Uncovered Inside Dissected Molar

Posted July 29, 2009 8:30 AM

From ScienceDaily: Latest Science News:

New, micro-images of strange, worm-like structures uncovered inside a dissected molar might have been held in ancient times as proof that gnawing tooth worms were the cause of tooth decay, a theory widely believed in many cultures before modern times. The structures are not worms, but what they are is still in question.

Hi,

this looks nearly identical to SEM images of broken samples of fiber reinforced plastic.

So I have no doubt that these structures are the way that nature uses to convert the low quality aragonite material (the "ceramic" material of teeth) with some fibers into a super-quality high-strength material!

Looks like some form of bacteria make itself a home in a disgarded tooth.

Skulls dug up in Eroupe of people who had little or no exposure to sugar have the teeth still frimly set in the jaw and few teeth had even a cavity.

That should tell us all something about sugar.
