1. Babcok & Willcox can.

2. Any competent boiler repair tech. can

3. An internet search can.

Given your lack of knowledge of the subject, I'd look for other, easier work, if I were you.

Anonymous posters usually aren't very reliable, since they can't be identified, even if someone wanted to supply you with information you should have had before taking on the job.

Good luck.

First Legal requirement - you should be an approved legally certified Boiler Repairer, which has Grade-I, Grade-II, Etc. - issued by respective competent authority of the Boiler Department. Each country has its own standards and rules and regulations, which you have to satisfy the regulations.

Or else, you can not take up and do any job like re-tubing which is a pressure part. If your work involves some welding, in the pressure part, the welder should be certified welder and you cannot engage ordinary welder.

Unless you (or your contractor) are registered as an "R" shop, you can't do this work. Simply following a repair procedure is not enough; you must also satisfy a registration procedure beforehand.

The old boy made this steam engine boiler for a model engine 75 years ago for R&R while in an engineering army unit. It was 'protected' in asbestos cladding. No, it is not to be rebuilt. It could be copied by professionals for reasons of safety as previously mentioned.

Yes, the model engine made from a hydraulic brake assembly as a piston etc still exists .... works well running on compressed air.

If it was a Locomotive type boiler I could tell you what you need but i am not familiar with FM 175 Babcock and Wilcox boiler. you will I suspect need tube expander rollers plus rotary flap sanders to polish the tube holes after old tubes have been extracted either by chiseling them out or some type of extracting tool.

if the tubes are welded on the ends to the tube plate you will have to cut the welds with a chisel and then smooth the area by grinding and then get a certified pressure vessel welder to weld the new tubes to the tube plate

working in a Loco fire box to do this job is dirty and messy and some tubes are diabolical to get at Hours spent in cramped conditions doing this

Cheers

This is not rocket science !

I was taught on the job and have expanded many tubes into firebox tube plates on Locomotive boilers to the satisfaction of inspectors. It is time consuming to have to turn the tube expander around and around many times to expand the end of the tube into the tube plate hole

In Loco type boilers the firebox tube ends are usually turned down onto the tube plate and the raw ends welded to the plate this is to stop the tube ends from getting burnt, at the smokebox end they are usually just left bell mouthed.

At worst he is likely to have a leaking tube not much chance of a new tube blowing. The boiler will have to be cold tested before use and then steam tested. I am more concerned about certificated welders laying down large pads of weld on boiler barrel outer where corrosion has occurred between the insulation and the boiler barrel

Cheers

IIf you need to ask such a question, then the only tool you need is a telephone so you can arrange for someone else to do the work.
