I have never used one. Have you tried the manufacturer's literature or contacting the supplier? They are going to be your best places to get this very specific product information.

Compared to what?

1. Most accurate of all the analysers mentioned.

2. Never breaks down, according to the research I have done.

Your request leaves much to be desired.

Why don't you list all the other options and get an opinion poll below?

1. Look into the manual

2. Its all about handling the tool. Do not drop it. Again read the manual!

It is for measurement of hardness ions in solution, not Rockwell Hardness. Dropping it is still a bad idea. Please follow all manufacturer's guidelines in the product manual.

If one is considering purchase, see if the local area representative has a demo unit for installation on the water process. If this is a spectrometric type analyzer from Hach Co., as opposed to those that use electrochemical detection, it is likely to be the most reliable and accurate device on the market, as long as all maintenance is done on schedule and done correctly.

If installed, operated and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, very high. If not, then lower. (Usual disclaimer)

I actually have used and done troubleshooting on this particular equipment.

  1. It is an inline measurement device and operates 24/7.
  2. It takes daily maintenance in making sure that all the proper chemicals are full.
  3. If you accidentally mix up which chemical goes where, you are screwed, and the machine is clogged which takes sometimes a full day to take apart and clean all the internal parts that are gummed up.
  4. It is a very expensive piece of measurement equipment and needs highly trained and dedicated operators to keep it running.
  5. Aside from that, if you are able to keep the chemicals straight and do the required maintenance, you have a very accurate and stable machine that will give you good results day in and day out.
  6. Did I mention that you MUST NOT mix up the chemicals. That was the biggest problem we had until we restricted access to only Grade 2 Operators filling the 6 individual chemical containers!

Hope this helps.

Yes fully agreed with you need to handle with care.

1. say if all reagent and solution are handle properly

2. set the machine to auto cleaning and calibration within the maintenance guide

Question:

a. will the water slip into the pressue guage

b. will the solution get into the PCB controller

c. will auto burette crack easily

thanks

Question:

a. will the water slip into the pressue guage

b. will the solution get into the PCB controller

c. will auto burette crack easily

Answer:

A. If I understand the question clearly, will water somehow migrate or pass into the pressure gauge. We never had that issue that I recall.

B. We had an issue with the PCB once and we traced it to OPERATOR ERROR in replacing the pumping components back into the machine. This was fixed and then the order came from management that only Grade 2 Operators were the ones to perform repairs and daily maintenance.

C. The auto burette is delicate and we never broke one in the 8 years I was at the Waste water treatment plant that I know of probably because everyone knew that it was delicate. We did have a spare unit and had many repair and maintenance parts on hand because if the analyzer wasn't working we had to do more manual sample testing and more work for a Government employee doesn't sit well when they would rather be sitting in the lunchroom reading the newspaper.

I haven't worked in the water treatment industry for about 4 years so my memory could be a bit rusty musty dusty foggy, however I remember that when the analyzer was running and full of reagent it worked well.

The biggest factor with the machine is to have an experienced operator maintain it and I'm not talking about 1 person, I'm talking about at least 2 operators on EVERY shift. People get sick and go on vacation and the lower operators would get pressed into service........ Oh well you see where I'm going with this!

Good luck and I hope I have assisted you in your questions.

a. will the water slip into the pressue guage

- Never experienced it, though the pressure guage may stop working.

b. will the solution get into the PCB controller

c. will auto burette crack easily

The water will slip into the electronics if the o rings / seals are not being replaced in time. I have witnessed the same with auto burette module. You must replace the one 'o' ring and two lip seals for the auto burrette module every three months, as per the OEM.

Hello Secenc,

We have two of them installed on potable water lines.

I have to agree that they need extreme care as far as maintaining the solutions is concerned. Here they are set up to auto-calibrate every week, and auto-clean every day. Usually, problem occurs on the next day of the calibration, the reason being no standard remaining in the bottles.

We once had a really strange problem in the valve module, it would mix the standard solution into the reagent 1 bottle, hence contaminating it. Replacing the valve module fixed the problem and reading.

Frequent checking and refilling of the bottles requires you to open the two covers, there is a chance you may pinch those tubes between the opening, I have faced this problem and discovered a pinch tube was causing the analyzer to behave strange.

Also, 'Auto Burrette home error', that I discovered was result of over tightening of the auto burrette mounting screwed ring.

As for the accuracy, as long as the calibration is successful, it's very accurate. Our chemist do check the hardness of the water in lab and accuracy is good.

Hope what I wrote will be of use for someone.

Look at the specification/details page for the instrument on Hach's website. This should tell you everything you need to know for comparison with whatever else is out there that you have found.
