10" Display Screens + Sensors

05/13/2015 8:41 AM

Hi, I am looking for a touch screen and processor to hold about 100 pictures and sensors. I want to be able to select a picture and allow a sensor and other mechanical parts to move the selected item to a specific point - through a conveyor system. Can anyone suggest something. Thank you.

I am thinking that you may want to start looking for a software programmer first as it sounds like this is kind of a custom application.

There are many hardware configurations that will do the job, even a simple iPad could do that, but selecting the hardware first is a little like putting the cart before the horse as you are still left with writing the application software to do the job and you can easily paint yourself into a corner if you select a platform that doesn't fit the application.

You might want to contact Andy Germany as he works as a independent consultant with embedded software and hardware and could be a valuable asset.

Prag,

Take a look at the Products and Suppliers page here on CR4. You may find exactly what you want.

Good luck

Maybe I'm misinterpreting because of a general lack of information, but a "10 inch touch screen" will mean 10 inch diagonal, which in standard display sizes equates to 8.75 x 5.25 inches, so roughly 45 square inches of display area. If you want 100 images displayed on there at once, each image will be approximately .22inches square, at most, with each image touching the next. If you want spaces between them, you are looking at image sizes of maybe 3/16" square for each image. On a touch screen with a human finger, that's going to be tough to be accurate on.

You are correct, I didn't even think about the actual size of the picture when displayed. There is also a dead band around the edges of the screens too so the image is going to be absolutely useless and the ability of an operator to select the individual picture is also useless!

Maybe he is thinking a 10" x 10" screen? or a 10" high screen?

You know how it goes, 20 questions and they rarely ever reply!

Well, the REAL solution, as used in most "recipe" style GUI applications, is a set of sub menus in groups, then fewer larger icons in each group. But of course, none of that was stated, described, or requested...

A "Rugidized" tablet may fit some of your wishes, possible via WLAN or Bluetooth. This allows for repositioning and flexibility, but do watch out for security...also, no keyboard needed, which removes a possible area of failure, even though Bluetooth keyboards are really good nowadays.....

There are also small rugged serial radio receivers/transmitters, again watch the security.

It may have already been done of course.....look for a package already doing what you need, that will be quicker to get up and running, probably cheaper in the long run....

I such cases, I would recommend to have some "central intelligence", safely away from the processes. Could be almost any type of computer, one you are familiar with and one with basic functionality for the job you want to do.....

Its difficult to be explicit with the infos supplied.....

Best of luck, keep us informed.

Sounds like you want a pick-and-place system.

Without knowing the physical charateristics of your items, the question is wide open to many answers.

Here is a link for some of the hardware that may be required.

https://www.google.com/search?q=pick+and+place+systems&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=_qVUVaW1IoGTNomzgZgJ&ved=0CDcQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=609&dpr=1.25

There is even a multi-level parking garage in Germany that will put your car on a

shelf and bring it back to you when you request it.

It COULD be done with aircraft carriers or bird seed,it all depends on the desried final

application.

Moving icons around the screen is easy.

Moving things in the real world is much more difficult.

You must have all the links in the chain complete.

You have much to learn, and far to go.

May you have a safe and benefical journey.

I heard that you need to buy a 10.4" touch screen and a sensor, which can be realized by computer software.
