Uhhhh - I believe the Op is asking how to calculate size before purchasing.

I agree that's probably the end game, but that wasn't the question.

Communication is as important as comprehension. Both seem to be at issue for our original poster.

First one must define the system for the UPS. Second one must know how long the UPS is supposed to power this load without line voltage available. Third one must understand the power unit of a watt and the energy unit of a watt-hour. Now demonstrate your understanding by applying some simple linear calculations and add some head room for hidden loads and battery fatigue.

I think redfred said it perfectly.

  • How large of a load will be on the UPS when the main power is off?
  • How long do you need it to run?
  • Is it life safety critical?
  • What safety factor do you want? 2X, 3X, 4X?
  • A little more information is needed to assist you in your question. fill in the questions and get back to us and we can help!

What extra help can we possibly provide? If the OP doesn't grasp the meaning of a watt and/or a watt-hour then any information they give us is questionable, at best. If they do understand these units then the mathematics is trivial. Then they should not need any of our help.

I agree. Typically the OP has a question, they post a very vague and unformed question and then rarely ever reply. We play 20 questions and they do????????

I will give them enough information to have them help themselves and if they care enough about their posting, then I will even reply when they divulge the hidden information.

I look at these questions as a way to keep my brain sharp even though the OP's is probably duller than a pencil eraser?

I appreciate the challenge that some of the posters give me (when it is a real question) and I even learn a few things by reading what others post!

1) Define the requirements.

2) Review the options on equipment, discussing, if necessary, any queries over the telephone with the equipment manufacturer(s).

3) make a selection.
