Gasket for Superheated Steam Line

06/22/2015 9:48 AM

Which is the suitable thickness, either 3mm or 5mm of metalic gasket to be provided on high pressure (65Kg/Sq.Cm), high temperature (480 deg C) superheated steam line?

I would think the flange design and not the gasket width would be most important design aspect for a high pressure seal.

Yes, depending on the design criteria.

Sittin' on the deck, back on the farm on vacation.

Perfect weather, good friends/family and plenty of scenery and a cold brew.

Life is good.

The best individual to ask is the one who installed it. Surprisingly, it cannot be seen from here.

Also, the facility's Piping Standards would also give this information. If such information is not to hand, a simple telephone call the Client's representative will provide it.

Dear Mr.SARANSTAR,

The Flange Surface and Parallelism is Most Important, and if taken care during machining and erection, 3 MM Thick is sufficient.

We use for the pressure of 65 Kg bar and 480-485 Deg.C, 3 MM Copper (annealed) Sheet as joint (instead of HP metallic Joint) to avoid bursting of Metallic Steam Joint and plant shut down.

If copper joint is removed for some reason, it can be re-used after again annealing. Thus at least 10 to 12 times same joint can be used - and each time it should be annealed.

See #1, who asks the question: what type of flange face do you have ? Raised- face, or RTJ. Is the existing gasket full metal or compound materials (spiral wound).

Don't you have a piping drawing with a bill-of-materials listed on it ?
