What You Find May Surprise You

07/30/2015 3:08 AM

Until recently, I had been away for some time. Looking over the posts from time to time during the day can be interesting or, at least, mildly entertaining.

Now, I don't know what prompted me to do this, but I started checking out the profiles of members who are actively participating, and I found that there are some really interesting people on our forum!

This post doesn't fit in the "Ask a Question" or "Start a Discussion" category, but there was no category for,

"hey, check out the profiles of our members",

which I am encouraging everyone to do, especially new and non-members!

And! This is an encouragement for those who have not done so, or done so for a while, to add to their profile! (still can't add emoticons Savvy :-| :-) )

I don't know what happened there, either. For me, the special character and emoticon menus no longer work, but most of the other effects do still work. I did have some sort of update in my browser, which is a weird local Ketchikan conglomeration of IE and Google, so far as I can tell. (Insert tongue-wag smiley here.)

I also have lost the emoticon access other than the smiley face.

That never slows us down.

Drag the cursor across the item, highlight it and Ctrl C then Ctrl V to cut and paste it.

I have no trouble at home, but have to do the copy trick at work where I use IE.

Google Chrome at home.

Thanks Lyn. I have done that before. Copying photos using this method used to be my standard way of getting them into the postings, but then it stopped working (for whatever obscure reason), so I started using the camera icon. It's been so long since that happened (a couple of OSs, browsers, and computers ago), that I forgot that I could cut & paste.

Thanks for the reminder!

There's more to many of our members than their profile alone can provide; after all, we can be as loquacious or laconic as we choose, and a title with a jumble of capital letters after it speaks to one's education, not what they know.

On the other hand, the information conveyed in the postings speaks volumes about the depth of knowledge, or a lack thereof, on a particular topic. Simply click on a screen-name or group and read through a random sampling of postings and you can learn more about the member than any profile could ever show. Welcome back.

Good points; accepted! However, back-and-forth communications in posts don't generally reveal accomplishments and non-engineering interests (although most of those have scientific/engineering underpinnings) or even other technical interests that are never brought out because CR4 questions and discussions have never touched on them.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Mike

Agreed! I'm a fan of Ayn Rand also, that wouldn't have come out unless somebody asked for the formulation of Rearden Metal...
