PS I know it should be "jus" but "joux" is so much more Loyd Grossman .

The green reminds me of Abalone, the serrated concertina form reminds me of windpipe formation in mamals, the trachea.

So I would guess shelfish/molusk trachea or something similar.

My back-up guess is the seed membranes from a pumpkin or similar with the seeds removed. (I often saveseeds from vegetables for next season planting.) Though in this case the colour indicates that they would be immature and not viable for growing.

For future reference, the mammal trachea does not resemble a serrated concertina in the slightest. The incomplete rings of cartilage are separate from each other (which makes an emergency tracheotomy that much easier).

Also shellfish do not have a trachea, which is a tube for passing large volumes of air

Thanks for the heads up on that.

Del totally got me with this one. I looked up the "properties" of the picture and got his intentional distraction. I was making the story in my response fit his picture topic to appear smart.

I do come from a farming background and have seen many animal trachae (We used to butcher our own sheep and cattle.) so I do know they are not serrated/concertina at all.

ps. I also spent a little time as an anaesthetist for open chest surgery in a veterniary program.

It comes down to this. DEL got me good!!!!!

Stomata and spiracles (various types of breathing hole) also come to mind.

Ah, I should warn I did rename the image as a deliberate red herring or is it the gills of a green herring?

Some close answers, but no cigar.

A singularity, I guess, it is best to have someone to talk to at this wonderful sight seeing.

A particle to wave duality may seem fit at Fridays. or couple of harmonics perhaps.

We have a winner!
I think it's slug damage that has healed over as it's grown...

I cut a couple this afternoon... they'll end up in a Tuna pasta dish...
Next question, should I open a bottle of my Rhubarb and Sultan wine to go with it?

Heyyy - I had it first! Er well, I guess not technically. BUT, I had the idea earlier and was not able to post because I had to unload an ammonium nitrate tanker (which was late due to fires in Oregon causing road closures and detours).
