Tool that Autonomously Builds Itself Down the Scale

08/23/2015 5:25 PM

- the robot set that "scales 'itself' down" to the job's scale (i hope you copy that)

is there a known naming for such (don't bother to offer the "utopia")

With the right programming a CNC multi axis machining station is the closest thing I can name that is capable of manufacturing a smaller version of its mechanical self.

Can you provide more information including a rough guide to these scales you speak of.

Also, are you talking about something making increasingly smaller versions of itself or self replicating identical versions of itself, or (more likely) that can manufacture something within a wide size range.

Robots are generally built for a set of or similar tasks, it's cheaper that way.

What are we talking about here exactly, and what scale? A standard robot that can build a house but is just as capable of building a microchip?

Well, you can keep copying copies with a Xerox machine with the scale set less than 1 to make it smaller and smaller, so perhaps you can rig a 3D printer and 3D scanner to do the same thing.

Nano robots would do it,.... But it operates as a collective.

Any robot that could make an exact replica of itself could very easily make a smaller version (assuming suitable actuators and sensors were available or buildable). Change of scale would be one number (scaling factor).

Yes, it's called a scalable robot.

.

.

.

,

I started to call it a Utopian scalable robot, but feared the humor would be lost.

Like "self instructing"?

You better be more specific and don't forget to read assorted literature about robots to find what you are looking for. I hear this educates you more.

Artificial Intelligence can do what you want but we were not to mention Utopia . . .

Ah, the replicators. Probably my least favorite enemy on GS1.
