Forum for Those Seeking Employment Directly or as a Consultant

08/31/2015 5:46 PM

It just occurred to me while reading some posts that seem to be ads....

Why does CR4 not have a forum for those of us seeking employment either directly or as consultants? Or is that opening a can of worms and I didn't get the memo?

Yep, I missed the memo and didn't look at that forum.

But now that I have, there is virtually nothing about anyone looking for either consulting or engineers. Back to the online job boards...sigh!

A jobs-fair want-ad type of forum could be a good branch-out for CR4. Education and careers doesn't seem quite the same. Once in a while we do see position-open threads, but they don't seem to spur much mutual interest.

It would be because all employment agencies already provide this facility with great effect.

Employment agencies and job boards are good as far as they go, but makes the seeker just another faceless resume to be handled. Personal contact of referral is much more effective.

Many of the job postings wind up in Commercial Space.

I agree that there could be more job opportunities shared on CR4. A good way to do this might be a user group, which is slightly more private than the regular forum. (You'd have to join the group to see the content.)

If there's enough interest I'd be happy to set up such a group.

It's an interesting idea, especially since it provides a value-added service to both subscribers and advertisers. Subscribers would get the benefit of increased exposure to posters who view a thread and think, "Seems that this person has a pretty good understanding of our problem, maybe he/she would like to help us with some hourly consulting arrangement" (I've gotten a few gigs that way), while advertisers might find a hidden talent pool that can help them move some product. Could be a win-win for everybody, and formalizing it might increase CR4's and GlobalSpec's exposure.
