Retirement benefits for Engineers

10/08/2015 11:15 AM

Engineers are employed in different kinds of workplaces belonging to government, semi government, private companies, self employed etc in different parts of the world governed by kings, democracy, dictatorship, communist state, military state etc but retirement benefits too differ like monthly pension, single payment of provident fund, social security, medical benefits, health insurance,no payment at all etc. Some get benefits by professional bodies like Institution of engineers to which they belong. What do ILO say about this, can't ILO specify proper retirement benefits for all because irrespective of workplace all contribute towards national economy and productivity. Can't UN instruct member states to follow UN guidelines on this to look after all categories?. In many countries if social security is not available can't UN remove them from membership?.

Almost all poor UN member states get UN and other nation's aid although they don't care for retired elders not only engineers.

Why do you love bureaucracy so disgustingly much?

Unfortunately UN is the only organisation authorised to something to mankind. Some employers(banks)even pay medical expenses to employee's wives as well as kids below 18 yrs of age. Whether a person work in government, corporations,or private company he does his duty assigned by the employer which takes his entire day, therefore benefits should be similar for all but might vary in amount depending on type of work and profit made by employer..

What ever happened to self reliance? Work and save for your future. Why put an inefficient, corruptible bureaucratic system in place to do what you can do for yourself?

Do for yourself is the correct way, in my opinion, but that's probably because I chose a self employment career path. However, the very vast majority of people, including technical types, do not seem to be able to plan for the future financially. You can put the blame on just about everything out there, as for the credit for those who do plan, it was probably parents, like mine.

As for the bureaucrats, they surely add a lot of cost to any system.

Anybody who would want the UN to control retirements shouldn't be able to retire. Haven't they messed up enough things already and you want to entrust them with your retirement funds? How about they make the trustees of the funds the dictators/emperors/presidents/kings/queens/etc. of the countries of the Vatican, Monaco, Nauru, Tuvalu, Liechtenstein, Maldives, Grenada, Uzbekistan, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Vanuatu, Andorra and Palau. Very experienced staff there for running the worlds retirement funds. Russia could be their advisor.

Who knows? Maybe you could get an answer from them the same day instead having to call the Social Security office 3 days in a row and then calling them the next week!

Good Luck, Old Salt
