Whatever your next move is it probable won't get spark. Do you have a code reader?

Crystal ball?

I hope you realize that with nothing to go on but one sentence, your odds of a cure are not good.

Try some of the Cavalier forums and then give up and have it towed to a garage or a junk yard.

You need a code reader but possibly based on last two I had to work on the ECU went for a crap and never got back to work.

Its almost 20 years old, simply sell it as it is or get it towed to a junk yard, and buy any car of any age that is not made by the same company as the Cavalier is......Chevrolet I believe......

Why waste time, thought and money on it?

Joke but also VERY true.....

Do you know how to double the value of a '98 (any year really!) Chevy(?) Cavalier?

Fill the tank!!

Andy, shame on you! If you fill the tank, you're actually tripling the value, because gas here is $3/gallon.

A client of mine has a 1999 Dodge Caravan she wants to give away. It doesn't run, but will be a good companion to your 1998 Chevy Cavalier. All you need to do is pay for the towing charges.

Another client has a 2000 Land Rover Discovery with a blown head gasket and have had overheating. She wants out and you can buy it for $1,000.

Or how about a 2001 Plymouth Neon with 174K and it won't start. They'd probably take $300. I also have a 1995 Volvo 960 wagon with a blown head gasket you can buy for $1,000.

Based on all the Cavalier references in a lot of different threads, and without reading anyone else' posts, your next move would be a "new/different vehicle" should be the most commonly given answer to your question.

Now I will look and see how many there are.

Two options here:

  1. Internet auction sites are great for solving problems like this. One simply lists the vehicle with some photographs, then in a few days' time someone shows up with some money and takes the problem away.
  2. Have the vehicle towed to the nearest breaker's yard and walk away from the problem. "Recycle - the possibilities are endless."

Didn't the guy at the tire shop tell you that you just put those new tires on the wrong car??

Cut your loses now and quit throwing good money at something thats going to leave you stranded!

Well, since you said you have "good ground", I suggest you you dig a hole in it and bury the car! Of course, being a Cavalier, it will likely make said ground infertile...
