20 Million Times More Sensitive Than the Human Eye

11/12/2015 1:49 PM

Ground broke for the world's largest telescope that will be 20 million time more sensitive than the human eye on Wednesday and it is planned to start observing the universe in 2021. This telescope is given with the task of finding life outside of the solar system. Looks like we will find out in 2021.

The size and light gathering power would be useless without adaptive optics to compensate for the atmospheric distortion.

Yes! Why aren't we building one on the moon?

Lunar dust is partly why.

As NASA found out with the Apollo missions, lunar dust is very sticky. The mirror in an optical telescope on the Moon might soon be covered with lunar dust. Likewise, the dust could find its way into the guiding systems needed to track stars as the moon rotates once per month. Maintenance could be difficult.

Oh, there are also those pesky problems of getting the parts there, building it, and operating it.

Humph! My X mother-in-law could see that well.

Every time she came over she found more new flaws in my character.

Please define <...we...>. Is it:

  • The original poster and her mum?
  • CR4 readers?
  • All CR4 Anonymous Posters?
  • The population of Chicken Coop, Arizona, USA (population 27 and a dog)?
  • The population of Tonga?
  • The entire human race?
  • The whole of life known so far?
  • The whole of life inclusive of that on other worlds?
  • Something else?

Just what does the word <...we...> represent? At the moment it's totally undefined and the answer to the original posting depends utterly upon that definition.

3/10. Must try harder.

We're living in an age of huge telescopes.

I found this comparison drawing on Wikipedia. Amazing.

Is sensitivity means resolution? If that is resolution, then this 20 million times can not be detected by the eye.

What could be more finer than what you see? I say nothing can surpass that. Not even Iphone or samsung cam.
