What is the minimum value of insulation resistance for the compressor. I got a minimum of 2.1Mega Ohm.

It depends....it also occurs to me that if you know enough to meg out a compressor properly, that you should know the risks involved and the acceptable range of readings...

What is the point of carrying out the test if the boundary between pass and fail is not known beforehand (rhetorical question - NNTR)?

Winding resistance depends and directly proportional with length of coil. The bigger the motor the higher the resistance.

Maintenance manual of motor should say how much should be the expected resistance of coils before coil can be totally useless.

Please have your mother read the questions to you before you try to answer them.

Better yet, have your mother find a kiddie forum for you that just uses small words.

What type of device did you use to measure this value of insulation?

You need say a 500 or 1000 Volt Megger, not an Ohmmeter for example.....

I personally consider insulation above 1 Meg Ohm to be OK on home electrical equipment, but I could be wrong!! Check your local code.

So if you were using the proper device to measure (in the proper manner! That is, you checked before and after the switch[s] and/or Contactor[s] for example), then I would have said that the insulation is fine.

As others here have already mentioned, you left so much information out, its rather difficult to be helpful!! This implies a serious lack of knowledge in an area where you could even electrocute yourself.....

I have (sadly) met many electricians over the years, who were very poor in knowledge and practices.....one I know blew up a printer (a really big one! It weighed 750 Kilos) when he mixed up phase and ground!!!! Luckily no one was hurt!! But he killed all the electronics......
