Greatness begins with Great BIG?

12/09/2015 3:11 PM

"Ok", I searched and searched and scoured some more.

Went thru CO2 Capture solution? then Carbon Sequestration then Carbon Dioxide Disposal/Sequestration/Conversion then Will Carbon Sequestration Solve Greenhouse Gas Problem? and Is Sequestration The Answer? as well as Possible Engineering Solutions to Atmospheric Warming ... then did numerous site-wide searches.

Several "near-mentions" exist, such as this thread entry (Usbport), propounding David Keith's (the Company's President) credentials. As of 30 minutes ago, 8 members had posted links to "fastcoexist" articles (this will make 9).

I am completely and totally bewildered by this; is this (Canadian) company actually considering doing this...?

...

Is this "web-we-weave" now a wide-open-market for a new breed of snake-oil salesmen?

Or, is this nothing but fodder for the climate (wanna-be) controllers?

Does anyone here see a ratio [horsepower-hours IN to 'fuel' OUT]?

This seems like a penny stock scam in the making....their last update on their website is from july '15, it seems the're building a prototype...think about it, 400 parts per million CO2 concentration...

How many trees would it take to do the same job?

Apparently 1000 times the area, and

the trees would have to live in areas that might be needed for agriculture

BUT the fans can go anywhere because

carbon dioxide is everywhere, the air capture plants could be built anywhere in the world and still help reduce global concentrations.

Looks like a "rob Peter to pay Paul" situation for a system product that could only possibly exist because of the current hype over capturing carbon dioxide to reduce planetary temperatures.

[responding-to jack~(5) & BSR(13) as well ---

My thought, when I read "planting enough trees to deal with the world's carbon problems would take at least 1,000 times more land" was ; are they calculating that based on "Bonsai" trees, fruit garden pear trees, cedar trees, Redwoods, or...?

I seem to recall that something on the order of 90% of the oxygen that we breathe is the product of photosynthesis performed by plankton in the oceans. If that is so, then, isn't 90% of the CO2 that gets photosynthesized ALSO accomplished in the oceans...?

There simply MUST be a better way for "Carbon Engineering" to spend their investors' monies!

The best I have seen is carbon capture at the power plant (exhaust phase).

Yes as the article says power plants only account for 40% (ish) of the carbon dioxide produced, but that is a hell of a lot of impact if even a fraction of the existing power plants are equipped with the technology.

As with most things don't try and find the perfect solution that covers everything, spend the money where it would give the greatest benefit FIRST.

I was curious what the power souce is for the fans.

According to Wikipedia, Alberta gets most of its electricity from coal and natural gas power stations.

From the pitch: "The plant will produce 10,000 barrels of synthetic fuel in a year."

Wonderful!!!

No mention of capital investment, cost to operate or energy required to produce this magic fuel.

Perhaps it will be powered by the LynDoor™Industries Hyperdrive Overunity 150.®

That way they can make enough gas to power all the cars on Earth and generate enough electricity to light every incandescent light bulb in the former Soviet Union, rendering all of kastrupsky's barges obsolete.

At first look, I thought this was a Kris-Del wind farm to power the wind turbines when Mother Nature is not cooperating.

OK, everyone else is turning fuel into carbon dioxide and energy, and they're turning carbon dioxide into fuel? Something seems fishy about that.

If they only have to burn 9999 barrels/year of synfuel to power this thing, then it will be a net winner. Uh-huh.

Yes, because once you have used fuel to capture the carbon dioxide and converted it into a carbon based fuel you can burn the fuel and............oh, right.

Search on "sweeping it under the carpet" too, then.

You said this is a Canadian firm?

Oh, I've got it!! The picture is a 1/64th scale pilot unit for the systems needed in Toronto, and now Ottawa, to offset the hot air and flatulence generated by the respective provincial and (new) federal governments. You'll notice the leg elevation- that's to allow it to be installed over highways so that it also prevents snow from falling on them, as we no longer have any money left to pay for snowplowing.(That went to pay the costs of shipping 300 or so politicians back and forth to Paris to help contribute to the hot air over there.)

Possible everyone here got it wrong?

Perhaps these are evaporator fans.....to cool Canadian air to prevent Global Warming!

But wait.....what if we have Global Cooling???? .....Then the cycle is reversed, and these are Condenser fans.....to warm the Canadian air to prevent Global Cooling!

Or....thirdly....could these be fans to blow CO2-laden air AWAY FROM CANADA...to prevent Climate Change in Canada??? (Who cares about the rest of the world....blow away the CO2 and make it someone else's problem...)

Based on PERCEPTION....It is always a net-positive approach to solve a problem, no matter how much energy is consumed.

The first four words of the title of the original linked article say it all and answer your question also.

Well.....lets see. I like this process because NO ENERGY is required to power the fans!!! Look at the diagram below......energy IS REQUIRED to create CO2 from the CO2 rich solution. But, according to the company, Carbon Engineering, they have found a way to power the fans using an ENERGY-FREE process! I like the way these guys think! If only we had more of these "out-of-the-box" thinkers out there....just imagine what we could do!! As far as I'm concerned.....PROBLEM SOLVED!! NEXT!

Oh....and by the way.......Trees are not the only living organisms that photosynthesize CO2 into O2. I just talked to the R&D folks at Carbon Engineering......One of their "out-of-the-box" ideas was that trees would have to replace agriculture to perform the photosynthesis necessary to convert CO2 into O2. .....Well, as it turns out, planting corn in those acres produces food....and uses up more CO2 per acre, per year, than any type of trees planted in the same square footage of trees.....because corn is a VERY fast growing plant.....and would still be carbon-neutral for the energy to process it. And.....people and animals can eat corn.

(Ok.....actually, I'm still on hold with Carbon Engineering.......but the rest is true.)

Really?

So we're going to eat trees in order to clean the excess CO2 out of the atmosphere?

Let's digest that bit of information. Hmmmm.... Humans have single compartment stomachs and a digestive system that cannot process cellulose (trees). Sorry will not digest. Does not compute.

Which means? If you stop farming and production of food all affected humans will die from starvation long before CO2 could ever possibly kill everyone!.

FYI: All living green plants and some non-green plants consume nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen then return the oxygen back into the atmosphere for animal use. The process is not by any stretch of the imagination isolated to trees.

There are holes in this logic you could drive a train through without touching any of the sides.

Why can't we just plant more trees on the land that isn't being farmed? That way we don't have to starve to death.

Is there a patent on trees yet or has Monsatan done that already?
