I have been very loosely acquainted with some microbrewers whom I have not seen for a while. If I get the chance, I will make the suggestion, but no guarantees. I don't know anything about shipping logistics to Australia. Maybe you can toss the name around to some locals. Do you grow hops there? I am close to one of the world's premium areas for those.

Pity Nottingham is a bit of a trek for you. This is a ½ mile walk for me, it may have been a bit longer coming back home.

The other day, springboarding off a CR4 thread on reversing gears, I searched for videos on weird gears and found several YouTubes which segued into some kinetic woodwork by somebody Roy.

Yep, that's the guy. If I had the room on my walls and the right budget, I would love to own an example or two. I no longer have room for a shop, or I could make something like that myself. There is a "maker shop" opening up in town, where you can rent some time and access to various tools. I don't know how far along they are with this, nor what the current complement of tools is. A band saw, drill press, and router could do most or all of this.

Interesting, I saw the same shapes within the last 2 weeks on Facebook except without the drive mechanism, spun by hand, but it was credited to a different artist. Have to try to find it again & add this original link.

I believe the shape is a called a Zinnia, and is not uncommon.....this one credited to Clayton Boyer

This is something we suffer with in our products. We have regular patterns created by microchannel plates, thousands of holes on maybe 6 or 10µm pitch & random patterns of electrons (background noise) giving patterns in the output phosphor screen. Add in the random splashes caused by cosmic rays & it can sometimes be difficult to discern the right image.

This sounds like "aliasing" in image reproduction. [?] I suspect sometimes desirable, sometimes not. You might be able to Google some ideas either way.

Yes, very similar to aliasing but hard to apply anti-aliasing as the input is random.

These sorts of things may be surprising, but usually delightfully so. Such adjectives as "freaky", "magic", "miraculous", "baffling", and the like seem inappropriate, especially when decently explained as in the video.

Pretty cool. I especially liked how the spirals were formed.
