Will You Be Watching "The" Game Today

02/07/2016 8:59 AM

How many here plan to watch Super Bowl 50 today?

How many do not care about football?

Who do you think will win?

How many watch the game just for the overpriced commercials?

What was your favorite commercial, if you watched and if you cared?

What was the best ever game, so far?

I'll be looking in the general direction of the TV, if only because we have bird feeders just outside our front window.

My season ended when the Jets lost to the Bills. Once again Rex Ryan deflated Jet fans hopes.

My heart is with Peyton. My head is with Carolina. I will be watching with interest the commercials.

"Deflated" is not a word to be used in any football context any more.

Why? When no player gets punished for the action, why would a fan get punished for a word.

As Michael Vick would say, "I don't really have a dog in this fight."

I've really lost interest in football over the past few years, especially NFL football. I've never been a fan of Payton Manning. He never 'won the big one' in college, and despite the hype around the guy and his years playing he's only won 1 NFL championship. His low-key brother Eli has won 2.

Nor am I much of a fan of Cam Newton. He left a personal trail of disaster behind him, in his college career.

I guess I'll check in on the score late in the game and see if it's worth watching the 4th quarter.

Excellent discussion about the game around the game:

http://www.macleans.ca/sports/scott-feschuks-guide-to-super-bowl-sunday/

Some of the brilliance from the article: "I'm not saying a roll of Mentos could provide better analysis than Phil Simms of CBS. I'm not saying it-however, I am typing it in a magazine and placing it on a long banner pulled by a biplane."

If half as much money was spent on engineering research as is spent on sport, even before you consider the cost of gambling on the outcome, we would all be better of.

Unfortunately I think Carolina got screwed, that catch in the first quarter would have been for a first down. And the challenge lost them a time out. It was an overall really bad play by the referees. That changed the course of the whole game.

For once (or maybe this is twice), I actually agree with you, although I have never been a Panthers fan, but have preferred the Broncos over the Cowboys in recent years.

I really could not give much of a poop about pro football - spoiled overpaid brats mostly, and the whole "Black Lives Matter" crap - who wants to see or hear that junk in the middle of a good football game?

I wish half-time could go back to the way it used to be- John Phillips Sousa marches or nothing - not some bimbo motioning to her near naked ass.

I did know it was on today, but I had no idea at what time. I thought about watching the commercials, but I would have had to know when. Since I heard you could watch the commercials on the internet, it lowered my already low interest.

I'm with BAB (GA!)

It was a beautiful day here today (sunny and a high of 71°F) so I did quite a bit of pruning.

How many here plan to watch Super Bowl 50 today?

Not me.

How many do not care about football?

Not me.

Who do you think will win?

Don't care

What was your favorite commercial, if you watched and if you cared?

Didn't watch.

What was the best ever game, so far?

Can't remember, but after #10 TV ruined it. just like basebal and basketball.

I'll be looking in the general direction of the TV, if only because we have bird feeders just outside our front window.

Wise planning. If TV BLEEPS, you can always enjoy the birds. (Or the bears)

My parents would have to bring in their bird feeders at night when they lived in the Keene, NH area or the bears would empty them. Once the snows laid in, they could leave them out overnight.

Sorry for chiming in a day late. I didn't look at my computer over the weekend.

I planned on watching the game with my 10 year old son - wife and daughter were out. My son and I had a great time stuffing our faces as we watched.

I expected Carolina to win, but was sort of hoping Denver would win so Manning could retire on a high note. I say 'sort of' since Manning and Denver have already one the Super Bowl, where as it would be nice to have a first time winner.

I do usually enjoy the commercials, but this year I thought that over all they sucked with a few exceptions (and I can't even recall which commercials those were).

I assume by 'best game ever' you mean 'best Super Bowl ever' - Super Bowl XIII )(Dallas vs. Pittsburgh). I was (and still am) a Steelers fan.

My football season ended on 1/11/16. Watch how many pro teams just stay in the game for 3 quarters, then suddenly play like they need to win in the 4th. College games are played to win from the first kickoff.

I spent most of the second half of the Super Bowl reshaping Rose Hill on my train layout to better fit the industries around it. Enough said.

Definitely not football fans here in the UK.

But being patriotic we bend over backwards to find time to watch England play in World Cup Finals. We have a busy schedule but being retired we can usually adapt without too much disruption.

Other than that we don't mind the many TV football transmissions because it allows us to catch with our recorded programmes.

Bill Shankly quote: 'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'

Watched the first half. I am a huge Peyton fan. He played at my alma mater (some years after I graduated) and continues to support academic programs there with well-thought-out donations. Like a lot of people I wanted him to go out with a win, whether the win came from his play or the awesome Denver defense. Cam Newton and the Panthers will have other chances.

I'm generally not allowed to watch televised sports when a Tennessee team plays. I get so wound up I upset the dog and scare Mr. Best in Show. That's why I only saw half the game.

Sorry, I didn't get on the computer last night. Was watching the Super Bowl.

Yes, my plans were to watch the game and I did.

I care a lot about football. Playing it was an important part of my life. Although I can't play now, too old and too beaten up, I still twist and turn with the players at each play. Can't sit next to the wife since she does the same thing but much more ferociously.

Thought Denver would win and they did. Didn't expect them to score first and stay ahead the whole game but they did.

Paid no attention to the commercials. They are not worth the time since the Clydesdales and Apple left.

Not the best game yet. There have been numerous other good ones.

I am a fan of Peyton and Eli. Doesn't matter what team they are on, those guys are class acts compared to most of the other players. Besides being able to say a three syllable word, they have brains. I would much rather listen to them than Michael Vick, especially since I have dogs.

Good Luck, Old Salt

We watched the game. Kind of boring really. And the ads weren't much good either. I was hoping Carolina would get another score in the second half to make it an interesting game. Oh, well. Didn't really have any emotions tied to this one, never really do anyways. (unless it's the Pats, then I have a mild interest for old times sake. But really, the last time I followed football was when Steve Grogan was QB.) It's more about getting together with good friends, having some good food and drink and enjoy each other's company. My computer was off all weekend.

I find that I care less and less about sports each year--there always seems to be better ways to spend my time. That said, I watched the entirety of last night's game with my wife, a Giants/Manning fanatical. She was happy with the outcome, as you might imagine.

There was one odd point at the end of the game where they showed Eli standing in a sky box. I'm certain he had no idea a camera across the stadium was sending the puzzled look on his face to those watching the game on TV. A face that seemed to me to be of one wondering what could he now tease his older brother with since they both will now have two SB rings.

I really didn't understand any of that sentence, not who Eli is, or his brother, or a sky box, or an SB ring.

A sky box is like a group of opera or theater box seats, situated at an upper level of stadium seating. They are often reserved by businesses for entertaining clients. Fancier food than hot dogs can usually be ordered in.

SB ring is just a SuperBowl souvenir that goes on a finger.

Re: Will You Be Watching "The" Game Today

I watched it... and the team I was rooting for won, so that's good. I'm born/raised in Cleveland so 'my' team will likely never be there, so I have to chose a favorite to root for for other reasons... this time is was for Peyton. A class act that I wanted to see get a win.

Didn't care too much for the "Woo Guy" he was pretty annoying.

As for commercials - not my thing... Sure, some made me laugh a little, and the Jason Bourne trailer peeked some interest... but nothing stands out that I can recall today so...

As for the Best Game... well... we all have our own metric, so mine has to be Super Bowl X, not only a classic Steelers/Cowboys match-up... but... what makes it special for me are the rosters... only Preston Pearson out of all the players on both teams ever played for another team. That's right... excluding him, everyone else only ever played for the team they were on at the time of the Super Bowl... to me, that is something special that will never ever be repeated.

"That's right... excluding him, everyone else only ever played for the team they were on at the time of the Super Bowl."
Oh not true Super Bowl breath (said in the voice of Johnny Carson responding to Ed McMahon) . At least Franco Harris and Mike Webster, both Steelers, played for other teams later in their careers. Franco played his last year (1984) for the Seahawks and Webster played for the Chiefs 1989-1990.

"...later in their careers..." Indeed... which is why I used the qualifying statement... "...at the time of the Super Bowl..." Changes in roster post-super bowl acknowledged. But, at the time of the Super Bowl, all but one were franchise players who only ever played for their respective teams.

'...which is why I used the qualifying statement...'

Gotcha. I missed that detail. Thanks for clarifying.

Watched the game, but it was not a great one. Half time show was awful. I am for bringing back the marching bands. At least they had some talent. Didn't really care who one since I am a Bills fan, my hubby was for Denver, so that was nice that they one. The pulled pork dip we had was wonderful

Red eyeshadow aside, I thought Lady Gaga's performance of the National Anthem was very well done.

Helen succinctly sums up all the derogatory adjectives to describe the troglodytes who refuse to abide by the civilized laws of our civilized society.

Never have I heard "waste of humanity", "oxygen wasting", and all the other lovely terms concatenated in such a creative, descriptive, and accurate manner.

The only improvement would have been science testing the brain donated, and deciding it could not be returned because that requires a hazardous waste manifest, so they sent it to a Class I hazardous waste landfill.

Never have I heard

I take it you never were in the navy,... but Helen put it quite eloquently

I have heard the terms, and from Navy, or former Navy personnel (especially my father, who considered me during my early years to be a complete and penultimate waste of oxygen), but never quite in the strung together version Helen displayed.

I do not concur that I am a waste of oxygen, as I have made as least some use of the breath God has given me.

Football is for people who have nothing better to do with their time. I have many projects to do in my shop that takes precedent over football. I used to be a 49'ers fan when Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and the other incredible players were around. I dislike the half time shows. They are too gaudy and appeal to the "low brows". The stupid little dances the TD player makes puts me off. What ever happened to humility?

Here is something that drives me up the wall; "CANNED LAUGHTER". I refuse to watch any show on TV that uses canned laughter. I understand why they do it, but I don't need someone to tell me what is funny and what is not.

Football is for people who have nothing better to do with their time.

If watching sports one day a week for 20 weeks out of the year is lackadaisical.... I'm happy with my vices.
