Boiler Firebars Material

07/31/2007 5:26 AM

A boiler has the following specs for the fire grates:

FC300 CAST IRON 0.5%, Cr 1%, Cu and 0.5% Mo

A replacement with these specs is proposed:

FC250 CAST IRON WITH 1% Cr

What is/are the consequences in selecting the one with 1% Cr without the other alloying materials?

Cu and Mo prices are going through the roof.

And neither give great extra benefits to Anti-Scaling nor Co-efficient of Heat Conductivity--**.

**σ=C/12+Si/28+Mn/55+Cr/52+Ni/59+W/184+Nb/93+Mo/96+---------

σ being aggregate addition--gm-atom/100g

you are fine even without the Cr. But you could do with more Si ,Mn-if readily available
