On second thought, this is a few decades smaller than bacteria.

My next WAG is this is an electron microscope image of a virus.

After you posted link in your reply, Fredski, they are representing QD. But in the above photo, are the smaller dots the QD, or is the larger thing with "rows" within it the QD? Has it self-organization?

I think there are two images. One quadrant in the upper right corner with a 2 nm index marker and the remaining three quadrants with a 10 nm index. You are correct that nothing in these two images identifies which are the quantum dots.
