Where is Planet 9?

03/31/2016 3:52 PM

As you may or may not know, earlier this year some Caltech Researchers predicted the existence of a 9th planet with a very eccentric orbit.

https://www.caltech.edu/news/caltech-researchers-find-evidence-real-ninth-planet-49523

They asked for the public's help in finding the planet. So far, nothing. Though there was some news today that there is more indirect evidence for the existence of Planet 9.

So where is it? I figured I'd ask CR4. If your answer is "Where ever Pluto is", I'm with you, but then I will have the immediate followup question "Where is Planet 10?"

Here is a blog to help you get started finding it:

Right inside Planet 7 (it's hollow in there).

That's rather nebulous, is it not?

As far as I am concerned, I consider the ninth planet to be in a elliptical orbit about the Sun at a mean distance of 39.98AU, with a minimum of 29.73AU, and a maximum of 49.33AU .Don't tell me differently this many years into my life.

I would have thought that if their calculations predicted a 9th planet they would also predict where to look......

Unfortunately their predictions indicate it could be a rather broad region of sky. The planet being so far away it's a bit of a needle in a haystack...if it exists.
