Colonoscopy Diet

04/01/2016 12:42 AM

Dear gurus- within few days I'm going to have colonscopy test, I was ordered to avoid fibrous food- especialy fruit and vegetable.and sharply to avoid legumes.

But I think that probably Hummus might be okay because all the process of its preperation.

And I'm asking what about bananas, potatoes and eggplants?

I would appreciate very much if those who will answer me ,will tell me on what sources of knowledge they rely.

Thank you in advance.

Maybe not sausage links, though.

Ask your doctor.

It's been a while since I did one of these, and I don't remember about diet restrictions. Maybe a day ahead you go to liquids, and on the morning of the procedure you flush out with an enema. Not a lot of fun, but not too disruptive to normal habits.

I thought this was some more shit spam. Butt, it's all good, as long as your the king of your own throne. It's not as bad as it's sounds

Been through a couple of them and there's nothing funny about them! They are a real pain in the arse, hopefully they won't find anything serious.

Best of luck to you and 2 thumbs up for you to be willing to share such a personal procedure like this with us.

I don't envy you, having heard it's an ucomfotable procedure. My knowledge on this is limited, but do they not give you some sort of meds to (excuse language) empty you out ? ie swallow whatever and hope you can reach a vacant toilet in time.

My knowledge is thru chatting to patients when I had some gastroscope stuff done. Yes, I was thinking 'I hope to heck they clean those things'. That was after wondering if the monstous tube would go down my neck.

I'd call in and ask nusing staff, they seem a bit more clued up than docs when it comes down to practicalities.

All best.

Been there, done that. I didn't have to worry about what I ate before the 'prep' because that nasty-tasting vile liquid cleared out EVERYTHING.

As others have said, your doctor's advice is what matters most. Your 'prep' may be less 'vigorous' than others and you don't want to have to re-do this again next week.

I've had several of these, and I'm overdue for another (due to Crohn's disease.) I don't remember any diet restrictions except the day before with clear liquids. Over the years I've had 3 different laxative medications. One was a whole gallon, one was very foul tasting, the last was tolerable but no way would be called good. All cleaned you out totally; like have plenty of reading materials near the toilet. They can look a long way up the colon; at least to the beginning of the small bowel. They see with a camera on the end of the scope. Can also print photos and trim off any polyps found. The test itself was nothing, but the prep was bad.

Good to hear you got thru the procedure. I'm guessing that all is well - such procedures usualy give immediate info to medical staff. It's very generous of you to have shared on the topic. All best.
