Space Living

04/07/2016 9:50 PM

This is not a joke question. Strange, maybe, but serious. I have watched film of female astronauts with long hair, and the hair is flying loose. My question is "when in a weightless situation, if a person of either sex is totally undressed, what is the effect on human appendages?" Do male parts float as free as possible? And the same for breasts. More to the point, what is the feeling when back in gravity?

There's no gravity. Isn't it obvious?

There is no "down" for anything to sag toward.

The feeling on Earth? Don't know.

Hi Lyn. I've been away for a while. I've missed your comments. I know there is no up or down. I was thinking more along the lines of floating free.

"Up" and "down" are terms related to gravity here on Earth. We can't "fall" up in space or in a swimming pool.

Internal organs and external appendages all float free.

In space, there is no top or bottom.

Zero gravity would be pretty much like being under water. And I suspect that returning to gravity is a lot like climbing out of a swimming pool.

I would say that underwater would be the closest analogy of experience we can have here.

I know that being upside down underwater feel totally different than it does above water.

Underwater all external pressures balance the internal ones of our bodies so upside down under water is nothing more than a default perception created by our inner ear and even then that can be fooled/dampened by doing enough random up down side to side and rolling movements.

Look up the word disingenuous, then you will know that your "This is not a joke question." statement is bullshit.

Just go away, pervert.

No it is not. I do not want to see. I am asking a question. In gravity we are used to the way things are here. How would a female feel without the pull of gravity on her chest? Or the same for a male appendage. We normally have things droop. The pool analogy is probably as close as any of us will ever feel weightless, and even then it is not the same. You obviously missed the last line. How would it feel returning to earth. By the way, this site never used to be a place for name calling.

OK. I'm sorry, perhaps I had the wrong idea about what you really wanted to know & understand. However, it seems to me that these are minor (but maybe not trivial) issues compared to things like bone deterioration in zero-g and others.

Maybe you could find out first-hand by getting a ride on the vomit comet!

Maybe some delicately posed questions to past ISS inhabitants?

The freedom from Cooper's droopers would no doubt be enjoyed by all. Next.
