Highway Robbery is Back

06/09/2016 5:33 PM

Those ignorant Oakies are a barrel of laughs.

Oklahoma Police Can Seize Your Entire Bank Account on a Traffic Stop Without Any Charges

The one state that has gone complete anti-democratic is Oklahoma. It is wise not to travel in that state at all. Oklahoma should be on a no-fly zone. Now, Oklahoma police can outright seize everything you have from debit cards to bank accounts on a traffic stop without any criminal charges being filed. If some policeman thinks you’re doing something illegal, your life is over. Without money, you cannot hire a lawyer and they can just rob everything you have on a whim.

After reading the original linked article carefully

"I know that a lot of people are just going to focus on the seizing money. That's a very small thing that' s happening now. The largest part that we have found ... the biggest benefit has been the identity theft," Vincent said.

Homeland had more to say on the subject......

https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology/prepaid-card-reader-aids-seizing-fraudulent-cards

Sounds like (sort of) a good idea in an ideal world in the battle against criminals BUT soooooooooooo open to potential abuse and innocent people losing their money that they potentially may never be able to recover (that part seems to be glossed over).

You said, "Sounds like (sort of) a good idea in an ideal world" Show me an ideal world.

You won't find it in Oklahoma. "State Sen. Kyle Loveless, R-Oklahoma City, said that removes due process and the belief that a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He said we've already seen cases in Oklahoma where police are abusing the system.

"We've seen single mom's stuff be taken, a cancer survivor his drugs taken, we saw a Christian band being taken. We've seen innocent people's stuff being taken. We've seen where the money goes and how it's been misspent," Loveless said."

Ok, if the perp is carrying a stack of 30-40 cards, sure.

That's still guilty until proven innocent.

Yes I read the article too.

Sounds like someone had an idea they thought was good but it will likely end in more harm than good due to the people implementing it, both to the public and the reputation of the local police.

There was a scandal like this about 25-30 years ago in Louisiana. The cops were pulling over high-end cars, planting trivial amounts of regulated substances on them, and then confiscating them under "civil forfeiture". Totally corrupt.

They call it civil forfeiture. It's really just stealing!

Wyatt and Scott Graham teamed up arguing and convincing the federal court to suppress evidence obtained after a “routine” traffic stop pursuant to an open air drug dog sniff search. During an illegal search, Troopers found 3,000 Oxycontin pills, multiple fake I.D.s, fake prescriptions, and over $17,000 cash. All evidence suppressed and case dismissed.

Thanks Wyatt Law, YOU are one example of the reasons American's personal rights are being bypassed and violated. Give yourselves a pat on the back for making the world a worse place while profiting off crime with your targeted marketing towards criminals.

Sounds like the birth announcement for another Supreme Court case.

Unfortunately, significance is totally lost on 75% of Americans. Now had that been a yellow flag and a mention of a hit above the shoulders on a defenseless player.....

Considering the source, it was a no brainer for me.

I saw the Union Flag and Del and because I'm in the 5% that actually watches cycling on TV, I was also a bit familiar with "football". ALL the cycling channels are "football" channels first and if time is left, then cycling. We get breaks with "football" news in the middle of our race coverage. Red flags ALWAYS are big news and worthy of coverage. Hey - I've actually played that sport at least 3 times in my youthful school days in Phys. Ed. class. If there were as many football leagues as "football" leagues, we'd have year round coverage on ESPN 15 hours per day, just like beIN sports network.
