I suppose you mean the output frequency? Varying that is the whole point of an inverter. Doesn't the instruction manual tell you?

Manual can be downloaded. I got this inverter from US and in the initial setup they selected 60Hz. to change it I have to contact ABB to get password, but I am not able to get help from them.

So it is supply frequency you want to change. If you need a password what made you think this forum would be able to help? Have you contacted the people in US you bought it from?

Then get it from wherever it was purchased instead, and don't pay the invoice until it is to hand.

Our US Windstream Technologies Inc, send this to test in India. ABB India expressed their inability to support this product. I have gone through other various ABB grid tied inverters. They all can be programmed at site; using switches or through software/ firmware. I posted in this form hoping someone got similar experience. We have solutions for off grid products; but for On-grid we are facing problems as solar MPPT function do not work on wind-power. Wind MPPT function need wind table to be feed into the inverter; and it depends on wind mill output vs wind mill RPM.

If there's a password involved, contact ABB to get it.

Or, get: Strong Random Password Generator and see if it will guess the password for you.

Is this item ABB make small 4.2 kW wind Inverter . If I my assumption true then from the literature of ABB it states that the rated frequency is only 60 Hz and maximum variation from 57 to 63 Hz . So if your item is designed to generate only 60 Hz it may not be possible to change the out put frequency. So check up weather the rating given in your product is 60/50 Hz or only 60 Hz. Check up the following link you may get more details.

Re: Changing Inverter Frequency

This is a PV / Wind Power inverter for home use, DC input, AC output. It is designed only for use in North America per our standards, so it is NOT designed to be changed from a 60Hz output to a 50Hz output, because there is no 50Hz in North America. If they allowed you to change it, you would have to change more than just the frequency because the 120/240V single phase 60Hz in North American residential power systems is different from the 230V 50Hz single phase residential systems in the rest of the world. If they allowed just any user to change it, they can end up causing fires, equipment damage and/or life safety risks to the general public. ABB, having deep pockets, would be a target for every hungry lawyer. So they do not allow it to be changed. If you want a 230V 50Hz single phase output, you must buy that one from ABB.

Yes you are correct. This is for Argentina. Our US Windstream Technologies Inc, send this to test in India. ABB India expressed their inability to support this product. Maybe trade it in for a model ABB PVI-3.5-OUTD-IND-W?

Re: Changing Inverter Frequency

It's possible you can change its output frequency by changing one or two resistors on the controller inside - but only a power supply design engineer or technician familiar with switching mode power supplies could tell you which ones.

That is not advisable.

According to the data sheet*, that unit meets only USA electrical, fire, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility standards, and even if you were in the United States, the modifications necessary, minor though they might be, could void all of the certifications it guarantees. Opening its hermetically sealed enclosure would, in addition, make it possible for water to enter the enclosure, a rather unsafe condition.

It's PROBABLE (in my opinion) the firm could lose its ability to legally sell its products in India if they were to help you; India is known for its high customs duties, and India's government is notorious for zealously collecting them. That may explain their failure to reply to your queries.

Re: Changing Inverter Frequency

Thanks for your comment. My company is a part of our US company. Windstream-Inc started operations (June 2015) in India to meet Asia-Pacific markets. Our US team is busy and I am trying to get a solution from my end. I am experienced to work on PCBs, High frequency, even HV, etc. I have knowledge about most electronic components as I worked in wafer-fab, assembly and encapsulation of Transistors, ICs, IGBTs, MOSFETs, resistors, etc. Hence if I can get schematic I will be able to rework on the main PCB to replace components. I see only reason for ABB not supporting is, they do not have engineers who got knowledge on this product in India. As you know ABB is very big group. 100 inverters business is just nothing for them. ABB new business Director visited us but he also could not get me help or technical support. Lastly the bar code & specification sticker of this divice says that Frequency is factory set to 60Hz.

If you want to purchase 100’s of these units I’m sure ABB would be more than willing to accommodate your specified requirements. ABB will then offer a warranty. Do you offer a valid warranty?

Legally I’m not sure how you would stand. The UK has the sale of goods act, you would be in violation of it.
