08/06/2007 3:51 AM

Dear Sir,

My house Borewell is mixed with the Drainage Water, as such I request yourkidselves to suggest for cleaning of the Borewell by cleaning liquids so that the Borewll water becomes drinkable.

Thanking YOu,

  • Consider separating the borewell from the drainage water.
  • Consider eliminating leaks in the drainage pipework.
  • Consider lowering the drainage receptacle.
  • Consider improving the drainage processing. www.mantair.com, among others, produces add-on equipment for septic tanks.

One cannot make water purer by adding things to it; one has to take things away.

Hi, I agree with crabtree, but have a look at the add-on equipment from this site www.wte-ltd.co.uk as they supply several systems to clean the drainage water.

Prevention is better than cure!

It seems to be that you may not be the culprit.

Polluting or recharging of an aquifer is most probably regulated by law. The authorities should then be empowered to rectify or relieve the situation. I would contact the relevant authorities first.

Your alternative may be a good filter with chlorination or ozone treatment.

You may want to check out information on the net relating to a process known as "Shock Chlorination", it is a goverment approved process in Canada to treat potable water well sources. In laymen terms it means adding household bleach (sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite) to your water well allowing it to sit for a while to kill all coliform matter, then purge the well. If coliforms are not the issue and turbidity is then just purge the well until the water cleans up. Please ensure that you obtain regulatory approval prior to proceeding to ensure that you are not impacting other users.

Shock Chlorination Method

Shock chlorination is used to control iron and sulfate-reducing bacteria and to eliminate fecal coliform or E. coli bacteria in a water system. To be effective, shock chlorination should be done on a regular basis at least once or twice per year as part of a routine well maintenance program. Start the treatments early in the life of your well. Shock chlorination will disinfect the following:

  • The entire well depth
  • The formation around the bottom of the well
  • The pressure system
  • Some water treatment equipment
  • The distribution system.

To accomplish this, a large volume of chlorinated water is siphoned down the well to displace all the water in the well and some of the water in the formation surrounding the well.

Before you shock chlorinate, consult your water treatment equipment supplier to ensure the appropriate steps are taken to protect your treatment equipment.
Don't mix acids with chlorine. This is dangerous.
Effectiveness of shock chlorination
With shock chlorination, the entire system (from the water-bearing formation, through the well-bore and the distribution system) is exposed to water which has a concentration of chlorine strong enough to kill iron and sulfate reducing bacteria (see Figure 1, Water System). Bacteria collect in the pore spaces of the formation and on the casing or screened surface of the well. To be effective, you must use enough chlorine and water mixture to reach and disinfect the entire cased section of the well and adjacent water-bearing formation.
