Reminds me of my late uncle. His last words were "Here, hold my beer and watch this!".

It looked like a narrow miss to me too, but hitting it would probably not caused an accident, they (drones) are so lightly built!

Sadly, not that much detail on the steam rocket itself....

That's true....

Like the insulation on the Columbia Launch?... hopefully said in a sarcastic but means no offensive way

Yes, very little information on the steam rocket itself.

I would just love to have more information on how this steam is being generated from what?

It's made following the same design as the original SkyCycle build by Robert Truax for Evel Knievel's jump....It was built by Robert's son to prove that the design would have worked if the parachute would not have deployed prematurely....which it did....

It's a simple design of a SS tank full of water heated to 475°F with a De Laval nozzle...

Brilliant links, especially the second one which really answered my query.

Many thanks...

"...the 3.9 seconds that determines the rest of my life." That is a very, very sobering thought.

A buddy of mine is wanting to build a rocket engine for a go-kart, but I think neither one of us can ensure (1) we can make a rocket engine safe enough to be within a mile of, or that (2) he would survive the ride if we get the thing to make the thrust he thinks he wants.

He actually has an old solid propellant RATO engine from an early U.S. jet bomber that needed this assist in taking off, it is about the size of a large beer keg, and it has been used (thankfully), so the old propellant is gone.

I will make sure he sees both the links you sent me.

It will be fun, I hope to see what we come up with.

His first gyrocopter snagged on a barbed wire fence. So far, the second one, he still flies around in.

Actually, he has several pulse jets he already made, that could be improved upon, I suspect.

What about a Jet engine instead of a rocket engine?

There are some really easy to build ones that you see where people are driving their go carts, in fact anything on wheels.

There is even a few builders who drives their push bike with one!!

Jet Pushbike

Some are based on using a Diesel turbo charger, or there is one type that uses a bent "U" shaped tube...

Look here for ones with no moving parts:-

Homebuilt Jet Engine Go-Kart

pulsejet engine go kart memorial day salute

Jet-kart-The most MENTAL kart EVER

This one may be more complicated but really interesting:-

Worlds FIRST axial flow model jet engine

How to build a TURBOJET ENGINE

I think that there pioneers show that its not necessary to build a probably dangerous rocket and still have fun!! Making rocket fuel is not that easy too......

I hope this inspires!!
