The RF Magnetics Lab Kit Demystifies Inductors

11/19/2016 1:55 PM

Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction is best understood through application, they say. Coilcraft, the inductor manufacturer is making available a kit that contains a broad selection of chip and air core inductors, LC filter modules, and wideband transformers. Free of charge if you're a student, an instructor or maker. Apply here on Coilcraft site

If this is real, I say it may not violate rule 9. The offer is to provide "free of charge" kits for education.

However, following the instructions leads to a dead end.

Jury still out.

At least they have offices worldwide.

Does nothing but open a browser window, leaving the requestor with a blank screen and no information.

Lyn: I would suggest running a virus scan.

When I hovered over the link provided in his post I saw:

"https://goo.gl/5vrX1N" That intentional misspelling of google looks like a phishing ploy.

It's not a phishing ploy; it indicates a shortened URL created by Google URL Shortener.

There;s a red button on the coilcraft site (if you click on the link I provided, it will take you there), that says 'click here to request yours." That opens up an email form. You send them the email telling them who you are and then Coilcraft will decide if you do qualify. How that clears it up. NOTE: I'm not involved in any way with Coilcraft. Thought it was interesting and possibly useful to others. Cheers.

1. We get spammers here from time to time, always a history of 1 post.

2. This was your first post, and it was for something "free". That always arouses suspicions.

3. The place I work at (classified as "critical infrastructure" by the DHS) was hit with ransomware not to long ago, so looking at URLs for signs of phishing is a habit for everyone now.

4. I checked out the google shortener (NOT by using your link), and it is legitimate. But you might want to avoid using that in an opening post.

Not sure what the mystery of signing up is, but I just clicked through here and requested a kit on the Colicraft page. Very attractive offer, and FREE is good.

Send us a sample kit and let us verify it.

Simon, as I mentioned, I am not affiliated with Coilcraft in any way. I stumbled upon this and passed it along because I thought it might be useful to some. Thus, it is not up to me to send you, or anybody, anything. I repeat, this is not my product or service. If it offends you, take it down. I thought I was working in the cause of education.

Thanks for your noble efforts.

Newcomers "bearing gifts" are looked upon with scepticism because there are so many spammers out there.

I'm sure that you have noticed them if you come around much. Admin does a good job of deleting these and I believe that your post is legitimate, just off to a rocky start.

I wanted to get one because I have a 7th grader who is interested in science. I'd pass it along to his science teacher.

Welcome to the forum. Hang around.

Went directly to the Coilcraft site, clicked on the button, and it needed one of my email providers to be opened, then it filled in the To: address.

Thanks for sharing the free labkit offer by coilcraft. I signed upfor it and am hoping to qualify

i wish they made the process easy by not having to send an email, but may be it is their filtering /qualifying criteria.
