08/10/2007 4:32 AM

I am looking for a forging die face treatment to reduce wear.

The forging billet is pre heated to around 1000c.

if the die is 300 stainless, hastelloy or duplex try Kolsterising.

Surface harness of 68 HRc without dimensional change.

If using A-2 or D-2 steels I would strongly recommend Vanadium carbide coating, 3600 vickers hardness and applied via a thermal diffusion process, see:

Thermal spray treatment or electrospark deposition with carbides, borides, etc that retain hardness at 1000 C is what may be required. Some superalloys also provide enhanced wear resistance at high temperatures. Please contact technovationsintl@gmail.com for further help. Ram K. Iyengar, Ph.D
