The primary drawbacks are it has a very low energy content as measured by volume and mass plus when used as an internal combustion engine fuel the engine has to be extensively modified /redesigned to work efficiently with it.

Hydrogen fuel cell powered car or motorcycle is not a good idea.....much better to go with batteries....

Remember that hydrogen is a secondary fuel source, like electricity, or a wound-up spring as further examples.

Not only that, but if you use the oxygen in the air to burn the hydrogen (rather than carry around a large oxygen bottle) you still have the nitrogen oxide pollutants + those from any burned lub oil etc to consider ...... hence (in my opinion) what a daft idea!

Hydrogen as a fuel modifier is excellent at improving fuel economy of diesels, even gasoline, and especially HFO engines, and is only needed in a small ratio to the oil being burned in ICE. Up to 30+% fuel economy improvement is possible with only fractions of percent hydrogen addition.

This is due to "vast" increase in flame velocity in the cylinders and more complete burn of the entire fuel volute injected.

Drawback = EXPLOSION and your DOOM. just kidding!

There are already specifically designed CERTIFIED steel storage tanks of all sizes available on the market. Design pursuant to ASME code.

You can combine it in a molecule with oxygen. Safe and easy to store, but more challenging to get back out when you're ready to use it.

Back when the SR71 was being designed, hydrogen was considered as a fuel, but storage was the issue. Hydrogen was also being considered for automotive use. One commentator at the time noted that with hydrogen fuel stations, it would become a "bomb on every corner". Kind of like how lithium ion batteries lead to more and better car fires.

Steel cylinders are used in present industry. Do not use aluminum, the hydrogen will permeate out through the metal. Liquid hydrogen may be stored in stainless steel liquid cryogenic Dewar bottles, however there must be a path for vapor to escape at all times. It is not for amateurs.

Theoretically can use as fuel in ICE, both 2 cycle and 4 cycle, along with engines of various sizes. It cannot yet be used as a single fuel on gas turbines due to excessively high turbine inlet temperature, as I understand.

Other posts have mentioned about metal-organic frameworks that absorb or adsorb hydrogen and release it thermally, or by pressure swing.

I would go with the old concept and store it as gasoline.
